2010 Showcase Spotlight: La Zona Rosa 3/17

TraeABNSXSWBLOG.jpgWednesday, March 17th 2010, SXSW teamed up with O.G.P.R. and AllHipHop.com to present the Best in Texas Showcase at La Zona Rosa. Sets from Paul Wall & Chamillionaire, Trae tha Truth, Chalie Boy, Fat Pimp, Dorrough, League of Extraordinary G’z, Question?, Kyle Lee and Big Sid proved that hip-hop is alive and well down deep in the south. Beyond the killer showcase, plenty of SXSW performing artists were in attendance, such as Kid Sister, Yelawolf and Killer Mike.

Although it was cold out that Saturday night, the venue was hot with packed bodies and an intense lineup that included Infinite Body, Gun Outfit, Total Abuse, KIT, Best Coast, Abe Vigoda and No Age. Alumni News: All Eyes and Ears on Sufjan

Sufjan StevensThe music community was excited back in June when we learned that SXSW '04 Alum Sufjan Stevens was in fact working on a new album. The excitement came to a rolling boil when we learned that he'd booked a North American tour, set to perform live in large and beautiful, historic theaters and venues across the continent. Then, less than a couple weeks ago, we just about exploded when he surprised us by digitally releasing 60 minute EP All Delighted People with the promise of a physical release to follow shortly.

TheUglyBeats_ChuckMurphy.jpgTexas Monthly Magazine brought together the old and the new at their garage rock showcase at the Continental Club. Coinciding with a feature in their magazine and a daytime panel during SXSW, the showcase featured Texas garage rock bands from the 60's, like Kenny and The Kasuals and Mouse and the Traps, and partnered them with modern bands such as The Ugly Beats and Shapes Have Fangs in a celebration of the classic garage rock sound.

Opening with a surprise set from Superchunk, the music kept coming with the label's new act, the UK's Let's Wrestle, then Radar Bros, She & Him, Wye Oak, Lou Barlow and The Love Language. Small Black to Release Full Length Record

_MG_9402.JPGSmall Black was one highly anticipated act of SXSW 2010. A duo at the time they applied, by March, in addition to the buzz, they had a full band, a home at label Jagjaguwar, an opening spot at the coveted Mohawk for the Panache showcase, not too mention lending their abilities to backing fellow chill waver Washed Out on all of his SXSW performances.

Alumni News: Matthew Dear Releases Black City

This producer has been busy with multiple projects including remixing hot acts such as Charlotte Gainsbourg and the xx.
